Year 2
Updated 26.04.24
Hello Year 2!
Summer 1 - Week 3: Another great week in Year 2 this week! We have begun planning our writing based on 'The way back home' - a beautiful book all about a boy getting stranded on the moon. Our fractions topic in maths is giving us lots of challenge, but one the children are taking head on. Finally, we explored our new artist for this term, Sean Charmatz who creates digital pieces of artwork from still images.
On this webpage is lots of useful information about the upcoming term, including useful dates, learning links and a photo album that we will use to share some of our fabulous learning.
PE will be on a Monday and on a Thursday for the Summer term.
Library day will be Thursday

Spelling homework/information
We are using a new phonics and spelling programme in Year 2 this year, so we will be trying some different ways to do our spelling over the first few weeks.
If you need some ideas on how to help your child practise their spellings, check out the image I have uploaded below - this can also be found in your child's homework folder.
Because of the way our spelling units work at school, they are no longer weekly. Most units are 8 days long meaning tests will be incorporated into the 8th lesson. They will be updated on the website at the end of each unit.
Our next spelling quiz will be: Friday 3rd May
These are the spellings for this unit:
Summer Half-Term 1 topics:
ENGLISH: Recount and descriptive writing
MATHS TOPICS: Fractions and Time
SCIENCE: Plants and seeds
Geography: Hot and Cold places
